“The best part is finally having a purpose and a future.”

Pass the tissues – this announcement has got us a bit emotional.

Back in 2010, Rody LaFrance and Junior Pierre joined our program as sixth graders. They had never played guitar before, but they worked hard to become two of our most accomplished alumni.

At 11 years old, Rody was a shy student who was held back early in his academic career and had difficulty understanding how he fit in. Seven years later, he has awakened an intense passion for music and performance that has led him to the best stages and venues in Miami, and has graduated high school summa cum laude.

Junior found himself, and his inspiration, at Guitars Over Guns. Once a troubled teen, he has grown into an incredible musician and a confident leader, directing the Guitars Over Guns alumni band, Unistiq, in more than 50 performances every year.

Today, Rody and Junior have both been accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, each receiving talent scholarships! We could not be more proud of this incredible achievement.

Junior recently shared his experience with People Magazine: “I got my first guitar, and I realized the program was meant for me. I learned I didn’t have to be in bad situations. I could use music as an outlet. The best part is finally having a purpose and a future.”

Rody and Junior both exemplify so much talent, conviction, kindness, and leadership. Their accomplishments prove that anything is possible when you work hard and #ChooseYourSound.
