We are so thankful to have teamed up with Noisematch Recording Studio and Dre Torres Films for this year’s GOGO music video project. Students from North Miami and Allapattah spent months working on and arranging “Am I Wrong” by Nico & Vinz. This marks the first collaborative project between students of multiple schools. Our young musicians not only learned the parts, but also spent time understanding the message of the song and then wrote their own rap verses. We also added some unique GOGO touches!
Noisematch studio, led by Alex Campos Jr. and his father, graciously brought GOGO in to lay down the song and learn about the process of recording. It was an incredible experience. The studio is set in the heart of Wynwood amongst walls of murals – the bus ride there already had our kids in wonderland. After arriving at the studio and discussing how to be respectful of the equipment, we brought the students in and just watched their faces light up with astonished excitement. Being in a recording studio is always a cool experience, even for seasoned musicians, but Noisematch is one of the most beautiful studios in the country. Stay tuned for an album of pictures captured by Jason Koerner, Miami’s premier music photographer!
Several weeks later, we spent two days with rapper and video producer Dre Torres. Dre had come in and worked on concepts for the video with our students and then cast them into roles. We shot the video at Allapattah Middle School over spring break. The students really got into the process and are beyond excited to see the final product – and so are our mentors!
